PHIVOLCS and Professor Rau’s Team from NCKU Visit ARDSWC

During the Taiwan-Philippines VOTE Program, Dr. Arturo S. Daag from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and a delegation led by Professor Rau Ruey-Juin from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) visited our agency. The visit aimed to understand Taiwan’s mobile observation systems for debris flow and large-scale landslides, emergency response mechanisms, the application of the BigGIS geographic information system in disaster management, and the achievements of community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives.

PHIVOLCS also shared insights into the DYNASLOPE landslide early warning program in the Philippines, which integrates multidisciplinary approaches to develop an early warning system for deep-seated landslides, with hopes of strengthening bilateral cooperation with Taiwan in the future.

In the afternoon, the delegation conducted a field visit to the Chiu-fen-ear Mountain Shimen Dam Overlook and the debris flow observation station. PHIVOLCS members showed strong interest in Taiwan’s integrated mobile observation vehicle and restoration efforts. This exchange deepened mutual understanding of geological disaster monitoring and early warning systems, laying a solid foundation for future technical cooperation and international knowledge sharing.
