NCKU and MSD International Delegation Visit ARDSWC to Deepen Disaster Prevention Exchange - Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation, MOA

Professor Chjeng-Lun Shieh of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), along with selected members of the Multimodel Sediment Disaster (MSD) platform, visited Taiwan for the “2025 International Research Platform Visit on Compound Sediment Disasters.” The delegation included Professor Masaharu Fujita from Kyoto University, Professor Kuniaki Miyamoto from the University of Tsukuba, Professor Djoko Legono from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dr. Yu-Shiu Chen from NCKU’s Disaster Prevention Research Center, Dr. Yuan-Jung Tsai from the Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering at NCKU, and other distinguished guests.

The group visited the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation (ARDSWC) to discuss the next phase of international cooperation and research under the MSD platform, aiming to ensure the platform’s continued effective operation.

During their visit to the Disaster Mitigation and Monitoring Division and the Emergency Operation Center, the guests were introduced to Taiwan’s research and practical efforts in slope-land disaster prevention. Topics included the integrated monitoring system for large-scale landslides, disaster mitigation measures for debris flows and large-scale landslides, the BigGIS platform, and community-based disaster prevention programs.

This visit offered the delegation an in-depth understanding of Taiwan’s early warning systems, preparedness strategies, and emergency response operations for sediment-related disasters such as debris flows and large-scale landslides. It also highlighted the critical role of risk management and disaster prevention technology in disaster preparedness and response.
