Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) visit Taomi Community

On November 20, a delegation from the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) visited the Taomi Community in Nantou County to exchange insights on agricultural technologies and rural development achievements. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, with the delegation led by Dr. Carlo Fadda, Director of CIAT, and other experts and scholars.

CIAT is one of the research centers under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), focused on addressing global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss, and improving food systems through sustainable agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture is actively planning to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CIAT and intends to include our rural development and climate change mitigation efforts within the scope of this collaboration.

During the visit, Mr. Huang Xing-hao, Chairman of the Taomi Community, introduced the community's innovative agricultural industry development, particularly the six-level industry development model for crops such as passion fruit and jabuticaba. We further elaborated on the rural regeneration program, introducing its structure and outcomes. The visiting experts expressed high recognition of Taiwan’s achievements in biodiversity and agricultural industry development, and expressed hopes to apply Taiwan’s experience in CIAT-assisted countries to address agricultural challenges there.
