ARDSWC Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Open Geospatial Consortium, Opening a New Chapter of International Cooperation

The Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation, MOA (hereinafter referred to as the ARDSWC) and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today, jointly committed to promoting cooperation and exchanges in the areas of global climate change, disaster prevention, and other related issues. OGC is a crucial institution for establishing global spatial information standards, widely recognized by the international community for its efforts in setting spatial information standards. The ARDSWC has been actively involved in OGC and related organizations' activities for many years, regularly sending representatives to attend technical and planning committee meeting, continuously presenting international standard cases in the field of slope disaster prevention in Taiwan, and engaging in exchanges with experts and scholars from various countries. This MOU was signed by Director Lee Chen-Yang of the ARDSWC during his visit to the Netherlands to attend the 128th OGC Member Meeting. A bilateral cooperation agreement signing ceremony was held with Scott Simmons, the Chief Standards Officer of OGC, during the PC Meeting. According to the MOU, both parties will jointly promote cooperative research and exchanges on global climate change, disaster prevention, and other related issues. We will also share examples of disasters such as landslides and large-scale collapses in Taiwan, and participate in relevant technical working groups (Domain Working Group, DWG) for technical exchanges and discussions, including the Climate and Disaster Resilience Pilot project. Additionally, during this conference, practical cases of smart agriculture and soil and debris disaster prevention in Taiwan were presented in the Agriculture DWG and Climate Resilience – Emergency and Disaster Management DWG, fostering in-depth exchanges with international counterparts. The signing of this cooperation agreement marks the collaboration between the ARDSWC and OGC, ushering in a new chapter of cooperation in promoting disaster prevention and climate change adaptation globally. Looking forward, continuous exchanges will be carried out with other international members of OGC in terms of practical experience, scientific and technical information, expanding international exchanges, and making greater contributions to addressing global climate change challenges.
